Lycopodium Powder and/or Sword

The best quality Lycopodium powder for the best price is available now at Renegade.

Lycopodium is a yellow-tan dust like powder historically used as a flash powder. It is composed of the dry spores of clubmoss plants. When mixed with air, the spores are highly flammable because of their high fat content and their large surface area per unit of volume - a single spore's diameter is about 33 micrometers. Preferred sources are Lycopodium clavatum (wolf's-foot clubmoss) and Diphasiastrum digitatum (common ground cedar)

Lycopodium has been used in fireworks and explosives, fingerprint powders, as well as a covering for pills, and as a ice cream stabilizer. Today, the principal use of the powder is to create flashes or flames that are large and impressive but relatively easy to manage safely in magic acts, for cinema and theatrical special effects. The powder is also highly hydrophobic; if the surface of a cup of water is coated with lycopodium powder, you can put your finger into the cup and it will come out dusted with the powder but remain perfectly dry. An interesting fact of of the material.

In order to produce a flame the powder needs to be dispersed in the air and then ignited. We sell both a hollow Vul-cane, or a lyco pump.

      • The Vul-cane the powder is inside of the cane which has a burning end, as you swing the cane, the powder come out of the cane is ignited by the burning end and produces a huge flame.
      • The lyco pump is rubber bulb that you suck the powder into, when you squeeze the bulb the powder shoots out in a cloud, when this cloud hits a open flame it ignites. This can make a very big bursting flame, which looks similar to a fire spitting flame.

Whether you use it regularly or just sometimes, you can choose from two different sizes 1/2 pound or 1 pound. 1/2 pound is about 30 oz of volume. The vol-can sword is 35.5 inches long, with a wick covered tube that is 22inches long. The sword has is hollow so you can pore powder inside the sword just like the vol-can. Tthe total wight of the sword is 15 ounces. The hollow tube is 3/4 inch inside diameter.

      Hand Lamp

Only use lamp oil (paraffin) in your hand lamp.

Do not use white gas, gasoline, camp stove fuel, petrol, or other
petroleum products in your hand lamp.

Do not use a hand lamp while wearing polyester scarves or other highly
flammable clothing. Make sure that the lamps flames never come
in contact with clothing or costumes. Always have spotter/
assistant carefully watching your performance and they must have fire
extinguisher (CO2) and/or fire blanket, on hand in case of a fire.
Costume fires can start out of the performers sight and can
cause serious injury or death.

For a maximum burn time, fill the lamp base half full with lamp oil, place
on the lid with the wick attached and let soak for one minute. Then
open the lamp and re-fill the bowel to about half full, and screw on
the lid.

Only use the supplied wick, the replacement wick has a taped end that
should be used to help insert the wick into the lamp cap. The wick
needs to be very tight in the cap to prevent fuel from dripping out
from the sides of the wick, while doing dance moves. Always blow
out the lamp before all the fuel is totally burned out to improve the
wicks life span.

After you have used your hand lamp, remove excess fuel from the lamp
base. Some lamp oil may still drip from the wick. It is always
important to store your hand lamp in the provided metal container.

If you want to balance your hand lamp on your body while doing
acrobatics or other dance move, a Velcro adhesive chip is provided. Attach
the adhesive hook side on the bottom of the lamp, and sew the pile
side onto your clothing or costume.

Sword is a good length and hilt is a good width for hand grip. The sword unfortunately dumps lyco way too fast and needs something added to slow down lyco dispersion. Other makers have upgraded their design to resolve this issue so you dont waste all your lyco on the first swing. Hoping I can add/rig something to the sword to resolve this issue.

Love it!! Everything from here has shipped quickly. This is the second one I've bought, but not as a replacement. The first one I've been using for years and it's still in great condition, I just wanted more fire!

The lycopodium itself is awesome and the vol cane is amazing. The vul pump sucks it’s hard to get the powder inside and does not shoot out enough powder to ignite a fire ball.
